||University of Abertay Google Maps Mashup
ApEx || ColdFusion || XML || Google Maps API
Welcome to the University of Abertay Dundee's GoogleMap Mashup Application.
SO WHAT IS IT?
It is a way of Intitutes creating their own Institutional Google Maps with points of interest and keeping these maps updated with little or no knowledge of web development. Maps can quickly be updated and information easily delivered and read by the user.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
In order to create the Mashup we have created an Application Express (ApEx) application to allow Institutes to store points of iterest in an Oracle Database - these points of interest consist of data such Longitude, Latitude, Title, Content, Image, Link, Category etc... The data is then extracted from the database and converted into XML files using ColdFusion. The Google Maps API is then used to read these XML files and output the points of interest on a Google Map. Clicking the points of interest shows further details.
